Josh Ritter wurde 1976 in Moscow/Idaho, als Sohn zweier Neurologie Professoren gebohren.
Der Amerikaner wird heute als wichtiger Vertreter des Country Folks mit den Wurzeln in Johnny Cash oder auch Bob Dylan gesehen. Vom traditionellen Country wandte er sich erst 2006 mit dem Album "The Animal Years" ab und verwendete immer öfter die E-Gitarre hin zum Folk-Rock.
